On Tuesday night, two grownass conservative lawyers whacked the crap out of each other on social media.

“I majored in Ancient Greek and Latin at Dartmouth,” huffed Harmeet Dhillon, the head of the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division. “Your pretentiousness merely underscores your utter lack of street cred.”

“Are you drunk?” replied Ed Whelan, a conservative stalwart who spent decades hoovering up Kochbucks to launder the cruelest crackpot legal theories into mainstream respectability.

Both of these dinguses have done some shit. Dhillon was a perennial Republican candidate in California and worked as a personal lawyer for such luminaries as Donald Trump, Elon Musk, James O’Keefe, and James Damore. Whelan served in the Office of Legal Counsel under George W. Bush and earned himself the moniker “Zillow Ed” in 2018 when he used decades-old calendars, yearbooks, and suburban Montgomery County floor plans to “prove” that Brett Kavanaugh could not have tried to rape Christine Blasey Ford.

The fact that this week’s slapfight involves the sacred honor of a Republican judge is extremely on-brand.
