The administration’s argument - essentially “You’re not the boss of me!” - rarely goes over well with judges. He HAS to do something or his authority is history. Nobody would ever take him seriously as a judge again if he punts on this sort of blatant, in-your-face, what-are-you-gonna-do-about-it-punk disrespect.

If they ever get returned and sue, any monies awarded in the win must come from the pockets of the people who made the decisions to remove them and not paid by the government.

Agreed. The individuals who authorized payment to Bukele’s regime need to be held personally liable for the $6,000,000 or however much of our taxpayer money they end up spending on seizing, holding, transporting, and trafficking their victims. Also, they should be held personally liable for damages and trauma to the victims and their families. These illegal seizures and unauthorized-by-Congress use of taxpayer funds is tantamount to embezzlement, aka theft.

The civil rights that they have stolen from their hundreds of victims thus far, however, are priceless.

Donald John Trump has expressed his wish to violate the civil rights of enough American citizens to fill five more prisons like CECOT. There are already reports of several US citizens who have already been illegally seized and held, without charges or due process of any kind. The persons carrying out these raids, as well as those who ordered them, must be held personally accountable, since these are illegal acts that are not covered by “official” duties of POTUS or anyone who has taken an oath to uphold, defend, and/or faithfully execute the Constitution and laws of the USA.

No matter how the cases play out, they're going to be the subject of movies and historical fiction for decades.

This sad part is that in twenty years, people won’t believe it ever happened.
