TLDR: Churches endorsing political candidates, especially in this climate, will cause a lot of problems for churches.
The financial implications are absolutely terrifying. I love this breakdown because despite following it over the years I needed a refresher.
This will be a double edged sword on the local level.
I’m basing this off my experience going to churches in the south. I’ve been to many small “cowboy” churches and regularly attended mega churches that were so big they had elephants on stage for their Christmas programs.
Mega churches are the horoscopes of churches. They don’t take a hard line on really anything which is why they’re so popular. The smart ones will say nothing politically to avoid angering the congregation.
Smaller churches already divide regularly as demographics change. The older members what want hymns and traditional worship services while younger people want a band with contemporary songs.
I don’t think it will cause any of them to start lobbying to enforce the Johnson amendment, but it will add an extra layer of tension during election time and may split up some churches. I will be watching my local mega churches closely because church drama fun to watch.
I’ve sat through Sunday services that focused on talking shit about Joel Olsteen because they didn’t like his wishy washy answers on Larry King. Talk about mad for the wrong reasons.
Interesting that a religion that has a National Association of Communicators that is made up of hundreds of magazines, newspapers, radio and TV stations regularly claims it is the victim of suppression and cancelation.
Thanks Federalist Society for providing a judiciary that will protect the poor downtrodden Christian victims of a democracy that will soon flicker out of existence.

Don’t go to church. Have Sunday brunch instead.

Why do I suspect this will only be tolerated in churches favorable to Christian Nationalists?
